COMPOST TUMBLERS
The City of Nacogdoches' Composting Program is underway.
If you are a resident of the City of Nacogdoches and not currently composting, you may pick up an application to receive a compost tumbler at City Hall (202 East Pilar, Room 320), Public Works (3812 NW Stallings Drive) or at www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us. Return completed applications to Stacy Corley, Deputy City Secretary/Grant Coordinator at Nacogdoches City Hall, 202 East Pilar, Room 315, Nacogdoches, TX 75961. Compost tumblers will be given out on a first come first serve basis, as the number of tumblers are limited.
City Councilmember Shelley Brophy said, "Composting is good for the environment and keeps unnecessary waste out of the landfill. We are hopeful this pilot program will be a success."
Prior to receiving a compost tumbler you MUST attend one of the compost training classes that will be held at the Nacogdoches Courthouse Annex (202 West Main). Classes will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2010 or Thursday, January 28, 2010. Proof of completion of the composting class is required in order to pick up tumblers at the Public Works office at 3812 NW Stallings Drive.
Blue Bag Curb-side Recycling Program Ends
Although the curb-side recycling program has ended, paper (newspaper, letters, magazines, catalogs, junk mail. NO hard bound books) and cardboard (corrugated & cereal boxes with liner removed) will still be recycled at the city landfill (4602 NW Stallings) and is free of charge for county and city residents.
Loose paper and cardboard must be separated and put in the designated dumpsters. Paper and cardboard must be taken out of plastic bags.
The landfill is open Monday - Saturday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. To find alternatives to the city recycling program, view the new KNB Recycling Resource brochure and see the Nacogdoches Recycling page. Click here to learn more about the recent decision to end the recycling program.
Adding a dollar to your water bill, as well as your annual donation to KNB, helps support these programs.
Each year, 19 billion catalogs are mailed to American consumers. Catalog Choice is a free service that allows you to decide what gets in your mailbox. Use it to reduce your mailbox clutter, while helping save natural resources. Your participation benefits merchants, lowering their cost of distribution and helping them better target their market. Also, your participation as a member of the Catalog Choice community will collectively make a huge positive impact on the environment, as together we reduce the energy consumed, the carbon emissions, and the lost forests resulting from the current annual production and discarding of billions of paper catalogs.
