On October 22, 2016, 40 volunteers, including volunteers from the Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful board of directors, Milstead Counseling, R&K Distributors, the SFA NAACP chapter, and individuals from the community, came together to complete a community beautification project on Make A Difference Day. Through Make A Difference Day, Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful brought our local community together with communities across the nation to celebrate a national day of service.

Keep Texas Beautiful recognized Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful (KNB) as a recipient of the 2016 Anheuser-Busch Community Restoration Grant. Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) has worked in partnership with Anheuser-Busch and Keep America Beautiful (KAB) to give three KAB/KTB affiliates $3,000 each to assist in replanting and restoring public spaces and strengthening the communities that have been damaged by severe weather and flooding in recent years.

With the grant, KNB provided beautification along the newly asphalted section of Banita Creek Trail, in Banita Creek Park. This section of trail was moved inward toward the park and away from the Banita Creek due to erosion caused by flooding throughout the summer months. KNB replaced approximately 1,000 jonquil, or daffodil, bulbs and provided 5 trees to line the new section of trail. Volunteers planted 5 red oaks, each about 9 feet tall, and over 1,000 daffodil bulbs along the re-positioned section of the Banita Creek Trail.

"Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful planted many bulbs in this same area over the years through the Nacogdoches Blooms fundraising program. We are excited about the opportunity to replace those blubs that were lost and glad to support the City of Nacogdoches," Katie Blevins, KNB executive coordinator, said.

Sponsors include Milstead Counseling and R&K Distributors, the local Anheuser-Busch distributor.
